Below is a list of BC Provincial programs. If you need assistance or have questions, please speak to the BMT social workers.
Ministry of Housing & Social Development — MHSD (formerly MEIA)
This is a provincial income assistance program based on financial need. To qualify for the Persons With Disabilities (PWD) designation (which grants you more financial assistance as well as drug and dental coverage), you must first qualify for regular assistance. Criteria for regular assistance include cash assets of less than $1,500 and vehicle valued less than $5,000.
Your BMT social worker can explain this program to you and assist you with the application process for both regular and PWD assistance. You can apply by telephone or in person at the nearest Ministry of Employment & Income Assistance office. See Blue Pages in the phone book for locations. Or click here to go to the Ministry of Housing & Social Development web site.
Note that you can also be assessed by a MHSD Intake Worker if you are an inpatient and cannot go to the office.
If you have a greater than 10% change in your yearly income, you may be eligible for MSP Premium Assistance or Temporary Premium Assistance. For further information, please talk to your BMT Social Worker or call 604-683-7151 or 1-800-663-7100. Click here to go to the MSP web site.
