**COVID-19 Information**

While we understand it is difficult to be away from your loved one during their hospital stay/visits, the need to protect every one of our immunocompromised patients from influenza and all other respiratory illnesses remains the most important focus for the Leukemia BMT program.

As we navigate the new normal heading into the next phase of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we remain committed in our approach to safety. This means that at this time we will not be changing our procedures for visitors, food deliveries and personal item drop offs. We are taking the below measures to decrease potential transmission until further notice. As you are aware, this is a serious situation and we are taking these measures to protect your safety and the safety of all other patients and families.

1. Visitors to the L/BMT Inpatient unit 

Exceptional circumstances do exist, however, visitors are not permitted at this time. Please work with us to explain to your family members that this is to protect everyone, and we cannot have people arriving on the unit without prior approval. Managers should be made aware of any requests for exceptional visits to help coordinate safely.

2. Food deliveries 

Meal trays are delivered 3x per day on the inpatient unit and snacks can be requested. LB6 Daycare has a limited amount of snacks, so please bring your own snacks in to your daycare appointment. Please be reminded that food deliveries from outside sources or from family members or home cannot be accepted on the inpatient unit at this time.

3. Personal Items

You can receive personal items from home on the inpatient unit once every two weeks but only during working hours Monday to Friday. This will need to be coordinated with an administrative assistant for the program, not with the RN staff on shift. Family members are to call 604-314-7770 and leave a message to request a drop-off/pick-up time. Example of acceptable items; clean clothes, phone chargers, dry non-perishable foods.


Information will change daily for other areas of the hospital as they reopen to the public. Please know that we take your safety very seriously and will let you know when it is safe to have visitors once again. Our policies will be different than other areas of the hospital that do not care for immunocompromised patients. We will follow advice from our experts from Infection Control and Public Health to provide the best care for you. Please ask questions and reach out as needed.
